About Hermitage of Santo Spirito a Majella

Hermitage of Santo Spirito a Majella - Roccamorice | Secret World Trip Planner

The ´hermitage è one of the most important places of worship on the Majella; restoration work is underway on it. The´building dates back to before 1,000, and it is certain that Pope Victor III also lived there in 1053. But it was Pietro da Morrone who, in the mid-13th century, rediscovered the ascetic place, renovating the building and living here with some hermits. Still passable, in this one, is the "Scala Santa" which ascends to two rocky balconies where the monks probably stayed in prayer. Under the church you canò then visit the cave where the first hermits lived and on which the monastery was built.
