About The Garden of the Gods and the Loricato Pine

The Garden of the Gods and the Loricato Pine - 85030 | Secret World Trip Planner

One of the most beautiful hikes in the Pollino Park discovering the realm of the Giant Loricated Pines at more than 2,000 meters above sea level. It is an almost loop trail that has as its destination the Garden of the Gods near Serra di Crispo.

A locationà of inestimable naturalistic, historical and anthropological value. A place shrouded in the silence of the largest forests in’Italy of beech and with the presence of the’exceptional Loricate Pine. In fact, in this area of the park there are among the mostù ancient, twisted and spectacular specimens of loricate pine in’the entire protected area.

Giant, “white-skinned” trunks gleam in the daylight, witnesses to the time, slow, weathering to which they have been subjected for hundreds of years. They play the role of witnesses to bygone eras, ice ages and men who for years spent much of their time in the’shadow of these giants of nature, watching and defending their herds of horses and calves.

But this place is also located at the end of a long walk on ancient paths traveled by soldiers, brigands, mushroom hunters, and scholars who have gone to these peaks over the years, and it takes the curious hiker back to the communication routes of the Pollino peoples. Beech trees, clearings, wide vistas, spring waters, streams, plateaus, rocks and silence: these are the “ingredients” of one of the must-do hikes in the largest park inù Italy. The’hike starts from the Sanctuary of Madonna del Pollino. ( Source: IvyTour )
